Understanding the structure and function of diverse proteins and nucleic acids, and developing innovative technologies

Overview

We have determined the structures of various protein-nucleic acid complexes such as CRISPR-Cas9 and elucidated their action mechanisms. Furthermore, we have developed new genome editing tools by engineering proteins and RNAs based on the structural information.
We hope to elucidate the mechanisms by which diverse proteins and nucleic acids work, to deeply understand biological processes and to develop new technologies. In addition, we are also exploring novel enzymes that have not yet been discovered, with the aim of understanding their structure and function.
